Chanel sur la Riviera

Invited by Chanel for the cruise fashion show at cap d’Antibes, I arrived on Sunday afternoon at the Majestic hotel in Cannes for 2 days of pure madness on the Riviera. First step, a short visit to the pop-up store, which gathers the Croisette essentials (evening gowns, golden Camélia, branded bikinis and a make up bar). That night, journalists and VIPs were invited to a diner honoring Karl Lagerfeld at Michelangelo. The diner was extremely refined but not at all sophisticated. Karl was in great company: Blake Lively on his right and Vanessa Paradis on his left. On my end, I was sat between Camille and Angélique, the two bubbly French PRs. In between two slices of truffle pizza, I managed to interview the very nice Alexa Chung. I left dazzled by this evening, amidst good pals (of Karl Lagerfeld). The next morning; bucolic picnic and an immersion in Chanel perfumes, walking through the rose fields of Grasse.

In the early afternoon, I went to get ready to go backstage of the Chanel show. Wearing Alaïa from head to toe and Chanel bag in hand, I went to meet up with Karl and his team at l’Hôtel du Cap Eden Roc. The setting for the show is beautiful, a timeless cliffside hotel, beautiful lighting from above the cliff, the turquoise water of the swimming pool is calling my name, but I remain focused on my chic and VIP report!

I discover the supermodels’ changing rooms (Karolina Kurkova, Kristen McMenamy, Karlie Kloss, Frankie Rayder, Natacha Poly, Stella Tenant, Lily Donaldson…) It’s quite amusing passing off as a “paparazzi” amongst all these pretty girls, who are peacefully being made up, by Peter Philips’ team, the global creative director for Chanel makeup. I can see the rehearsal from afar and I’m delighted to hear my dear Prince in the background: Go Michel Gaubert! The guests are starting to arrive, the implicit Chanel dress code is omnipresent: I can see CC total-looks and Chanel bags everywhere, I’m in heaven!!! I proceed to the VIP entrance so I can start my interviews (to be found in my next post). The show begins at sunset, the light is divine, the cruise collection is stunning, the fine jewelry sparkles and Karl rocks his descent of the Roc.

During the cocktail on the cliff’s terrace, I interview a pretty brunette with big green eyes, Vanessa Paradis, who is as amazed as I am by the generosity of this great fashion house. We then view Karl’s film “The tale of a Fairy”*, which esthetically speaking reminds me of Under the Cherry Moon (still Prince) and of Black Swan’s transgression. Karl is hot! The film is praised and the festivities may begin! All that was missing was a guest star to make us dance and, out of thin air, the sexy Brian Ferry played his legendary hits just for us at this private concert. The DJs take over and heat up the atmosphere  with 70s funk: Vanessa Paradis, Clémence Poésy, Marine Vacth and myself go wild on the dance floor. The crowd of guests is super funky, cool and sexy; it’s like raving it up in paradise.

Thank you Chanel and thank you Mister Lagerfeld for this amazingly awesome trip in a relaxed yet extravagant ambiance.
